*** Note: The Workshop is OPEN TO ALL, no need to receive an invitation prior to registration! ***

Privacy has been recognized as a major challenge for the acceptance of Ubiquitous Computing environments. From 2002 to 2005, a workshop on Privacy Issues in Ubiquitous Computing was organized each year at the UbiComp Conference (see the corresponding homepages for 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005). The workshop is renowned to be one of the primary sources for privacy research in the Ubiquitous Computing environments.

For 2007, a special format of the workshop is sought in conjunction with the prestigious Personal and Ubiquitous Computing journal (PUC), published by Springer. We have invited major experts in the field to summarize state-of-the-art insights on ubicomp privacy from different angles, as well as with a view to the different underlying technologies. On top of these introductory summaries, the workshop solicits and accepts short research notes describing current activities in the individual topics. All submissions are reviewed by an international program committee comprised of experts in the field; authors of accepted submissions are invited to the workshop for brief presentations. Selected notes are also to be published, possibly in revised form, as part of the special issue.

As the result, the workshop appeals to both seasoned researchers and those new in the field. It offers concise overviews of major research areas and provides ample room for discussion and deliberation. The journal publication not only serves as an incentive for participation, but also signifies a lasting record of the event. Our goal is to create a publication that features a comprehensive overview on past and current research in privacy in Ubiquitous Computing - both through the in-depth survey articles from the invited experts, and by assembling current hot topics and promising research venues in short research notes of high quality.
